Gula Creamery is a homegrown ice-cream parlour and sister brand to Gula Cakery. They make ice creams from the flavours of their cakes. So you’ll get bits of their cakes inside their ice cream as well.

Besides ice creams, they also have ice cream cakes too.

They’ve recently introduced 7 new tantalising flavours of ice-cream cake. The flavours include:

  • Raspberry-Pistachio
  • Pandan Gula Melaka
  • Biscoff Cheesecake
  • Mango Cheesecake
  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Strawberry

Besides ice cream and ice cream cakes at Gula Creamery, they also serve milkshakes and waffles. Their waffles have a dollop of your favourite ice cream on top and their milkshakes have bits and pieces of the cakes inside too.

We gave them a try

With our team dinner coming up, we decided to give the ice cream cakes from Gula Cakery a try. We wanted to try something a little more unique, so we got the Rasberry Pistachio.

Would you look at the detailing of the cake? 😍 They were still solid for the first few minutes.

We also got to try two of their milkshakes which were the Berry Pavlova Milkshake & Biscoff Cheesecake Milkshake. Yes, just by hearing their names, we all got pre-diabetes.

The Taste Test

We got to hand it to them, they packed the cake and the milkshake quite securely. We got them all while they were still frozen and picture-perfect. But as soon as we got them out of the box, it was a race against time to get those pictures!

The cake started with a shortbread layer, pistachio ice cream, then raspberry sorbet, again with the pistachio ice cream and lastly, a pistachio-flavoured white chocolate top. It is then decorated with cream, raspberry and pistachio nuts.

As a person who likes pistachio, I personally like the ice cream. The pistachio flavour is not too strong and too sweet. It’s just nice. The raspberry sorbet is super sour and sweet at the same time so be warned!

The milkshakes were quite superb. Yes, it’s super sweet that you could run the risk of getting diabetes but it’s a good kinda sweet though. They’re both really creamy and rich.

They have some Biscoff and Pavlova bits on top of their respective drinks. It’s quite fun to chew on the bits of the toppings.

The Verdict

Usually, tart flavours would mix well with cream flavours as they can balance each other out. However, I feel like the combination of the cake is a bit off for me, so I ate them separately, one at a time.

Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the cake! We give it a 7/10 because it’s so rich and creamy. The 6-inch cake is actually good for sharing with around 5-8 people.

P.S. – You gotta eat them fast or it’s going to get really messy!

For the milkshakes, we give them an 8/10. Sweet, creamy and crumbly, perfect after a savoury meal.

Malaysian weather is too hot maa. Instead of sweetening it up with a regular cake, why not just try cooling it down with an ice cream cake or better yet, a cake-flavoured milkshake?

Having seen how much our customers enjoy our light ice-cream flavours but also crave the richness of our cakes, I was inspired to marry the best of Gula Cakery and Gula Creamery together to make the ultimate love child.

We put a fresh spin on some of our classic crowd favourites so that even our regulars will have something new to enjoy, and as always, made them fun-sized – perfect for sharing with friends and family!
