Sporadic cases in Klang Valley are seeing an increase despite the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) being implemented over the past three weeks, according to the Health Ministry.
MOH recorded 151,725 sporadic cases or 38% of the total cases in Selangor while Kuala Lumpur recorded 44,517 cases (11.2%). This was followed by Sarawak with 40,889 or 10.3% of the cases.
Berita Harian quoted Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah who said that from 1 January to 19 June, which is the 24th epidemiological week or Epid, Malaysia has recorded 578,105 Covid-19 cases.
Of the total, he said, 398,846 infections (69%) were sporadic.
Sporadic cases were detected in the community and could not be linked to any existing clusters. It’s detected through screening in the workplace, the community or those with symptomatic cases.Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah via Berita Harian
What is more worrying, he said, is that most sporadic cases are asymptomatic but they are able to infect anyone who does not practice standard operating procedures (SOPs) properly.
Klang Valley has the most number of sporadic cases
Dr Noor Hisham said the Klang Valley recorded the highest number of cases in the 24th Epid with Petaling (3,905), Hulu Langat (2,783) and Klang (2,482) being districts with the highest number of infections.
Based on the Ministry’s mapping, he said, it shows an increase in sporadic cases and a wider distribution of cases compared to previous mapping.
Dr Noor Hisham also added that although the FMCO has successfully controlled the increase in clusters by the 24th Epid, but sporadic cases have not shown signs of slowing down.
The Klang Valley has a high population density, so it is not only prone to the danger of high sporadic cases in the community, but most of these Covid-19 cases have no symptoms.Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah via Berita Harian
