Selangor’s Free Water Supply Scheme To Benefit Households Earning RM5,000 And Below

Air Selangor recently announced that the state government’s Skim Air Darul Ehsan or SADE now has an increased threshold of RM5,000 per household.
The scheme provides for 20m³ free supply of water for eligible consumers.
For the new criteria announced, applications opened yesterday and applicants must be Malaysians residing in the state of Selangor.
One applicant can only apply for one premises.
The new criteria states that the household must have an income of RM5,000 and below. For married couples, household income must also include that of their spouses, whether local or non-citizen.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had previously said that the expansion of the scheme is set to benefit an additional 100,000 Air Selangor account holders.
Air Selangor said residents at low-cost apartments will continue to receive the 20m³ free supply of water till December 2024.
Air Selangor also included the instructions for consumers to apply for the scheme in their Twitter post.

The idea of free water supply was first introduced as a blanket subsidy, back in 2008 when Pakatan Harapan won the state election.
Before another restructuring to raise the threshold to RM5,000 last year, it was stated in 2019 that the free water scheme would be reorganised as targeted subsidy, with RM4,000 as the threshold for eligible families beginning March 2020.
