DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng clarified that Pakatan Harapan chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s comment on willingness to collaborate with former partners; namely Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were taken out of context.

Lim said that PH presidential council had previously stated that it would not work together with Perikatan Nasional (PN) under the leadership of Muhyiddin due to the dark history resulting from the infamous 2022 Sheraton Move.

“We cannot work with those we cannot trust. The cooperation with Muhyiddin or PN could only be considered if the (PH) presidential council rescinds its previous decision. I will oppose any reversal of the previous decision,” Lim was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.

Lim said the Sheraton Move led by Muhyiddin had betrayed the people’s mandate which led to the formation of a backdoor government through cooperation with Umno, MCA, MIC and PAS.

However, Lim said that the coalition would agree to cooperate with any opposition party if it agreed that PH would take the lead and Anwar would be the prime minister candidate.

“This was agreed without requirements by Muda and (its president) Syed Saddiq (Abdul Rahman).

“However, the PH presidential council has not been informed of any changes of heart by Tun Dr Mahathir,” he said.

Anwar had reportedly said that the door remains open for PN and Dr Mahathir led Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) to work with PH in the upcoming 15th general election despite the history between them.

He said that during a press conference at PKR headquarters yesterday evening.

However, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, in a statement later in the day said that the party has no intention of working with GTA or PN.

“PKR and PH’s stance is clear. Our main focus is to strengthen PH itself.

“Anwar said that cooperation with any party as GE15 nears is only focused on efforts to topple Umno-Barisan Nasional, but it must be based on the principles of reform agenda, good governance and to fight corruption,” Fahmi was quoted by the English daily.
