A 36-year-old man was gunned down by four men at point-blank range at the Taman Intan traffic junction in Sungai Petani, Kedah, yesterday (25 May) around 12.30pm.

Free Malaysia Today reported that he was approached by the men on two motorcycles when he had just about finished his lunch and was about to enter his Toyota Vellfire that was parked across the restaurant.

Sadly, his wife and young son saw everything that happened next and could only scream from the five-foot way of the restaurant.

The gunmen shot the man repeatedly in the head before fleeing. The gunman was said to be wearing gloves and had something to cover his face.

New Straits Times reported that the man was shot at least eight times in the body and head.

A forensic team found eight bullet casings at the site. The police later identified the deceased as Murali Shunmugam, whose last known address was in Bukit Selambau, Kedah.

Kedah police chief Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said Murali was a wanted man by the police over suspected organised crime and drug-related activities, with a pending case under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

The case will be investigated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
