The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is the second runner-up in the prestigious 2023 BMCC Business Excellence Award.

This highly regarded accolade recognizes RCSEd’s achievement and significant
contributions to the field of education through its exemplary partnership in the UK-Malaysia education institutional category.

The British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) bestowed this distinguished honour upon RCSEd for its outstanding dedication and remarkable impact in advancing the education sector in both Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

This recognition further solidifies RCSEd’s position as a leading institution
committed to excellence and fostering meaningful collaborations in the realm of education.

RCSEd’s partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) stood out among a competitive field of nominees. The joint-venture collaboration between RCSEd and UKM has successfully harnessed the strengths and expertise of both institutions, resulting in a seamless partnership that has greatly contributed to the advancement of the medical and surgical education sector in Malaysia and the UK.

We are truly honoured to receive this prestigious recognition for our partnership with UKM. The success we have achieved together showcases the power of collaboration and the immense value it brings to the medical and surgical education sector. We are proud to have been able to contribute to the advancement of this sector in both Malaysia and the UK, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with UKM for many years to come.

Vice President of RCSEd, Claire McNaught

One of the more notable strategic collaborations between RCSEd and UKM is the Tuanku Muhriz Traveling Fellowship in Rural Surgery that promotes remote and rural humanitarian healthcare, according to McNaught.

It is an honour for UKM to receive the recognition from one of the world’s prestigious institutions. I wish to thank all the hard work done by all parties in particular the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Ministry of Higher Education, Professor Datuk Dr Hanafiah as Pro Vice Chancellor of UKM and past RCSED international surgical advisor who has been instrumental in developing this partnership. I hope this collaboration will continue to flourish in the future and become the hub of surgical training and education in this region.

Vice Chancellor of UKM, Professor Datuk Dr Ekhwan Toriman

The 2023 BMCC Business Excellence Award denotes a significant milestone for RCSEd and UKM, having worked hand in hand over the past five years to create a synergy that drives remarkable outcomes.

By capitalizing the best of UK and Malaysia expertise through their joint efforts, RCSEd and UKM have elevated the standards of medical and surgical education, research, and professional development. This recognition inspires both institutions to continue making a positive impact in the future.

RCSEd had earlier been placed in the top 3 for the UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership category and was announced as second runner-up at BMCC’s 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner, held recently at the St Regis Kuala Lumpur.

Among the attendees included International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong and UK Trade Envoy to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and ASEAN Richard Graham MP as well as former Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The British Council in Malaysia is the proud sponsor of the UK-Malaysia Education Institutional Partnership category.
