New Straits Times stated that the Federal Court upheld Najib’s conviction, 12-year prison sentence, and RM210 million fine on August 23. He was found guilty of misappropriating 42 million Malaysian ringgit from SRC International.

However, a petition for a royal pardon was submitted on the 2nd of September, filed by Tetuan Shafee & Co., and Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will still remain a member of parliament from Pekan until the conclusion of the pardon petition process.

The news concerned the people, who then created a petition for His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to hear the nation’s voice.

Gabungan Pilihan Raya Bersih dan Adil Bersih started the petition to Istana Negara (Pejabat Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja). And as of right now, 121,445 users have signed it. A petition to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for Royal Forgiveness to Dato’ Sri Najib was also made. It did not, however, attract the same attention and support as the petition asking the Agong to reject the pardon with around 31,000 signatures, according to Astro Awani.

We, your loyal subjects, humbly appeal to Your Majesty, not to exercise your discretion to pardon former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for his crime against the Malaysian public. He has been convicted of stealing public funds in the SRC International case and had been given due process of a fair trial

Malaysians’ and Their Reasons for Signing the Petition

The netizen says that they want the execution to continue since he is still guilty of many charges. Many of them voiced it out.

The commenter mentioned that this case could have an impact on all politicians in Malaysia, making sure that they think twice before they get involved in corruption. Otherwise, they would end up like Najib himself.

I want this case to be an example so that other leaders will not do the same.

The commenter voiced their frustration by stating that corrupt leaders do not deserve a single ounce of compassion.

As the Rakyat, we had to suffer the impact of corruption by elected officials who enriched themselves with our national wealth instead of using it to develop this country.
