How much does it cost to hire a maid in Malaysia?
A woman has raised eyebrows when she offered to pay RM3,800 a month in salary to hire a maid.
The woman, Denise Chong, posted on Facebook that she is looking for a maid to take care of her two children who are 10 years old and 6 years old.
The maid is also expected to be able to cook and also clean the house.
Why You Should Pay Your Maid More
The offered wage has set tongues wagging as it is higher than many jobs out there that require a university degree.
Yet at the same time, netizens said being a maid is not an easy job.
Given better options, many Malaysians are not keen on domestic work, which is synonymous with hard work, long hours and low pay.
Unless the benefits are large enough, most will not want to switch from the job they are already doing.

As such, it’s for employers to be pragmatic and generous.
Some pointed out that even cooks can get paid up to RM6,000.

Previously, there had been a shortage of maids due to international borders being closed.
The situation is made worse as the work permits of most foreign domestic helpers are expiring.
