Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that several sub-sectors have been allowed to operate under the Recovery Movement Control (RMCO) period from 1st July onwards.

In his RMCO press conference today, the Senior Minister revealed that a special Cabinet meeting has approved the operation of the following sub-sectors:

  • Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions (MICE)
  • Travel and trade fairs
  • Spa, wellness and foot reflexology centres

However these sectors are subject to health standard operating procedures (SOP) by the Health Ministry and National Security Council (MKN).

MICE events & travel & trade fairs

For MICE events as well as travel and trade fairs, there is a maximum limit of 250 attendees and all visitors must download and register themselves on the MySejahtera application.

He also stressed that the organisers must adhere to the SOPs in place such as temperature screening, registration of visitors and social distancing.

Spa, wellness & foot reflexology centres

As for the spa, wellness and foot reflexology centres, Ismail Sabri explains that they can open only with workers who are Malaysian citizens.

These centres must also seek approval from the authorities and all workers must undergo Covid-19 screening.

Tution centres, special education schools and private education institutions will be allowed to operate.

However, the exact date and SOP will be announced by the Education Ministry soon.

Tahfiz schools

Tahfiz schools are allowed to operate again. However, they can only open at the same time as public schools under the Education Ministry – which currently only allows Form 5 and Form 6 students who are sitting for SPM and STPM.

Only registered tahfiz schools will be allowed to open. According to Ismail Sabri, tahfiz schools that are not registered yet can make an application with the Islamic Department of their respective states.

Ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats as well as foreign diplomatic staff are allowed to enter mosques for Friday prayers from 3rd July onwards.

Non-Malaysian citizens aside from diplomatic staff are not allowed to participate in Friday prayers at public mosques, but Ismail Sabri states that this will be allowed in due time.

Malaysia entered the RMCO period on 10th June and restriction measures are continually being eased until it ends on 31st August.
