Malaysia Increasing COVID-19 Tests From 3,500 to 16,000 Cases A Day By April

Malaysia will be able to test more Covid-19 cases by April as the Ministry of Health is increasing the capacity from 3,500 cases a day to 16,000.

To combat the spread of the coronavirus, Ministry of Health (MOH) Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that the number of test labs will also be increased to allow more infection cases to be identified.

Currently, he said, there are 23 laboratories in the country including five private facilities which are able to conduct tests.

To expand the number of labs that can conduct tests, Hisham said the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) will train several other labs including those in the military and university hospitals.

He also said the Ministry will also deploy more nurses in states that have very high numbers of Covid-19 patients as well as recall retired specialist doctors and nurses to mitigate the situation.

Malaysia has recorded 1,306 COVID-19 cases nationwide with Selangor (309) having the most number of cases followed by Kuala Lumpur (183) and Johor (145).

The public were urged to stay indoors for a two-week period to break the chain of infection as the government enforced the movement control order (MCO) last week.
