16-Month-Old Baby Dies After Being Left In The Car For Hours, Police Investigate Case For Possible Neglect

The father forgot to send the baby to the daycare centre which is situated at the IPTA campus where he works.

A 16-month-old baby passed away at a government university (IPTA) in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu today. The poor baby was found unconscious around 4.30 pm in a car after the father unintentionally left the child in the vehicle.

This incident occurred after the father forgot to send the baby to the daycare centre situated on the same campus where he works in. As soon as the father found the baby, he rushed to the IPTA health centre as reported Kosmo Online.

According to the Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din, the baby was pronounced dead by the staff in the IPTA health centre.

“After receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene of the incident and found that the child had died,” he stated as reported by Berita Harian.

The baby’s body has been sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine, Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for autopsy.

Currently the case in being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001, and according to Abdul Rahim, the police will take statements from the parents involved to complete the investigation.

Meanwhile, he urged the public to refrain from speculating since this may impede the inquiry and affect the family’s emotions.

This incident is the second one this month. The first incident occurred when a mother left her child in the car thinking that she had already sent the baby to the daycare centre.

This incident occurred just a few weeks ago, at the Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital (HCTM) in Cheras.
