A video clip online showed Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil allegedly ending a TikTok Live event last night by threatening his viewers with police action after they posted critical comments about the government.

Fahmi was two hours into the event when he seemingly had enough of the avalanche of comments mocking him and questioning many of the government’s policies.

Fahmi told viewers that those who made “statements like this” were being monitored by the authorities.

Don’t get upset with me if there is a call or a radio car outside of your house. We are monitoring, behave yourself.

Fahmi rubbished the claims

Fahmi rubbished claims that he threatened his TikTok viewers with police action for posting comments critical of himself and the government.

Fahmi explained he reminded viewers not to make provocative remarks using race, religion, and royalty (3R).

With regards to 3R, everything I have said remains the same. It’s the same thing that (home minister) Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said. I gave a reminder to everyone not to post incendiary 3R comments.

He said there were often comments touching on 3R during his TikTok live events and he has reminded social media users to refrain from using 3R for political purposes.

Back in March, Fahmi had said that amendments made to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 (Act 588) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1988 (Act 589) could help curb issues relating to 3R.
