The world is filled with bizarre incidents and some of it boggles the mind.

Such an incident took place in Ecuador where a 76-year-old woman named Bella Montoya who was declared dead by the doctors, woke up during her funeral and knocked from inside her coffin. She was immediately brought to the hospital once again.

This incident frightened everyone according to her son Gilberto Barbera, as reported by The Guardian.

Montoya, who is a retired nurse, was rushed to the hospital last Friday due to what might have been a stroke and cardiac arrest.

According to Ecuador’s health ministry, a doctor on duty ruled her dead after she did not respond to resuscitation efforts.

Barbera stated that his mother was unconscious when she was rushed to the emergency department. A few hours later, the doctor on duty told Barbera that his mother had passed away and handed him the death certificate.

Later that day, the family arranged for the funeral.

“There were about 20 of us there,” Barbera said.

“After about five hours of the wake, the coffin started to make sounds. My mom was wrapped in sheets and hitting the coffin, and when we approached, we could see that she was breathing heavily.”

As mentioned above, Montoya was rushed to the hospital in the central city of Babahoyo and according to the health minister, she was under intensive care.

This incident may seem like unbelievable but this is not the first time it has happened. According to a report from Independent, Watson Franklin Mandujano Doroteo, a Peruvian man who died after undergoing a root canal operation was seen to be breathing at his funeral. This incident took place in October 2017.

Although such occurrences are “amazingly rare,” Dr. Stephen Hughes, senior lecturer in medicine at Anglia Ruskin University in the UK, told Insider that he has seen them twice in his 20-year career as a consultant in emergency medicine.

Life and death are part and parcel of life. It is never in our hands rather it is in the hands of a higher power.
