A BMW convoy on the way to Penang recently got into trouble with the law after a viral video showed the cars hogging all the lanes on the bridge.

In the video, the BMW convoy drove slowly and hogged the two-lane road in three lines. The other road users were understandably annoyed with the convoy’s antics since they were blocked from going faster or overtaking the cars.

The convoy allegedly caused a one-hour jam on the road.

South Seberang Perai police confirmed receiving a report about the incident.

The police said the incident happened on 9 June 2023 around 12.30pm from KM 3.8 from Batu Kawan until KM 9.0 heading towards Batu Maung.

South Seberang Perai police chief Superintendent Lee Chong Chern said the drivers stayed at a hotel in Batu Feringghi.

On 11 June around 12.10am, 12 drivers appeared in IPD Seberang Perai Selatan and the police issued 16 summonses in total.

12 summonses were issued for obstructing traffic while the other four summons were for having fancy number plates.

According to Malaysia Gazette, it’s understood that the convoy comprised local and Singaporean members.

The case is being investigated under Road Traffic Rules 1959 Section 16(1) LN 166/59 for traffic obstruction.

BMW Car Club Singapore has issued an apology for the mistakes during their recent Penang Drive.

The group said they are working closely with the local authorities upon receiving news regarding the viral video.

They promise to implement additional measures in the future to prevent a similar issue from reoccurring.
