Social media has recently been flooded with a video clip where a driver was seen being dragged out of his dark blue Perodua Axia by three men at a traffic light junction.

The three individuals handled the driver aggressively in the process of dragging him out of the car.

The 62-second video clip has left people wondering what exactly happened. The victim was also seen trying to ask for help from other motorists after the men made off with his car.

However, one of the three individuals who drove the car was in such a hurry that when he was approached by a motorcyclist, the individual took a left turn recklessly and almost injured a cyclist in the process.

This incident took place at the Jalan Bagan Lalang traffic light, as reported by Utusan Malaysia.

It turns out that the car was a collateral for a RM100,000 loan taken out by the driver’s mother.

According to Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Asri Shafie, investigations revealed that the 57-year-old victim’s mother had obtained a loan from a man for RM100,000 in 2020.

“Through a written agreement, the victim’s mother agreed to hand over the car if she failed to pay the loan. Since the victim’s mother failed to pay the loan, the man (creditor) involved hired three men to seize the car,” he said.

The case is now being investigated in accordance with Section 395 of the Penal Code for armed robbery without violence. If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to 20 years in prison and be fined or caned.

In the meantime, the police are still tracking the suspects of the case.

The police are asking the public to stop broadcasting the incident’s footage.

At the same time, anyone with information regarding the case can contact any nearby police station or the SPU IPD Operations Room at 04-5759122.

A reminder for borrowers

It’s crucial for borrowers to understand that collateral is essentially an item, like a car or a house, that the borrower uses to secure a loan.

If the borrower defaults on the loan, the collateral can be seized.

Therefore it is important to remember that it is not wise to obtain loans from dubious creditors.
