A woman is believed to have been beaten to death with a hammer by her husband. The incident took place at the couple’s home in Kampung Besol, Bukit Besi at around 8am yesterday.

Dungun district police chief Supt Baharudin Abdullah said Rubiah Sabtu, the 41 year old victim, was a grocery store trader. She died at the scene from injuries to her face.

Prior to the incident, the 32-year-old suspect and the victim allegedly had an argument when the victim dropped off her 6-year-old daughter, who is also the suspect’s stepdaughter, at kindergarten, as reported by Berita Harian.

The couple has one child who is three-months-old while the victim had six children from her previous marriage.

The incident was said to have happened following an argument between the husband and wife.

The suspect, allegedly terrified after what happened, was said to have fled the scene and gone to a nearby relative’s home before telling his story.

“It is understood that there was a disagreement between the couple who had just started a family a year ago which caused the victim’s husband to suddenly act out of control,” Baharuddin stated as reported by Utusan Malaysia.

According to Baharudin, the suspect, told his family members about what happened before they informed the police.

The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and the suspect has been detained.

The body of the victim was sent to the Dungun Hospital’s Forensic Unit for post-mortem.

According to Rozilan Yusof, the victim’s 38-year-old stepbrother, what happened was unexpected as his brother-in-law was a good and quiet person.

Prior to the incident, the victim had contacted her stepbrother at 1am to borrow a fan for her baby due to the hot weather.
