Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh becomes the first Asian woman to win a leading film acting award at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG-AFTRA).

She won the award for best female actor in a leading role for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Other nominees in the category include Cate Blanchett for Tar, Viola Davis for The Woman King, Ana de Armas for Blonde, and Danielle Deadwyler for Till.

I think if I speak, my heart will explode. SAG-AFTRA, to get this from you who understand what it is to get here… everyone of you know the journey, the roller coaster ride, the ups and downs. But most importantly, we never give up. I thank you… for your love, for your support. Because I know I’m up agaisnt titans, rightly so.

Yeoh then paused and turned away from the crowd to compose herself but eventually let out an exciting scream of “f**k” and “s**t,” which drew laughter from the supportive audience.

She added that the award wasn’t just for her but for every little girl who looks like her. She also gave a shout-out to Sally Field in her speech.

She [Sally] said all the right things because we are here because we love what we do and we will never stop doing this because we really, really love it. But thank you for giving me a seat at the table because so many of us need this. We want to be seen, we want to be heard, and tonight, tonight you’ve shown us that it is possible. I’m grateful and my mum will be eternally grateful to all of you.
