Figos is a well known brand producing futsal shoes in Malaysia. Other than futsal shoes, they also make futsal balls and other futsal accessories. The company which began in 2002 is one of the primary brands focusing on futsal.

“At first, I did not believe the news and was wondering if it could be a scam. I seriously never expected something like this. I only believed it when the director of Figos met me in person.”

Speaking to The Rakyat Post, the futsal played said while she was happy, she was also nervous because of the responsibilities that she had to carry as a brand ambassador.

Kirtana who is now pursuing her degree in Software Engineering is also the team manager and team coach for the Sai Youth Academy.

Their team plays at the RKS Premier League which takes place at the RKS Sports Centre.

Kirtana’s love for futsal began at 20 when she joined the Real Hustlers futsal team. This was her first exposure to the world of futsal.

She was approached by one of her coaches about starting a female futsal team at the time.

“However, I could not commit as I needed to complete my final year project.”

Things changed later on when she went on board and became vice president of the Unitar futsal club.

At the time, the team’s performance was not good and they did not have sufficient players. But they grew and improved and competed in the IPT Futsal League against teams from other universities across Malaysia.

Being a female team manager in the RKS Premier League, Kirtana went through several obstacles.

“Being in a male dominated industry like futsal, some usually think what would a female know. So whatever I say, there would be disagreement, saying things like ‘it should be done like this and not like that’. But at the end of the day, what I said would turn out to be the right thing and they admitted it.”

She also received backlash from society as she was in a sport surrounded by men.

“To the outside world, it may look like I am very close to my boys when I am coaching them,”
