Malaysian Women’s Junior Squash Team Wins Championships For 4th Time

The four-player team defeated Hong Kong 2-0 at the Asian Junior Team Championships in Chennai, India.

Malaysia’s national women’s junior squash team won the Asian Junior Team Championships in Chennai, India, yesterday (12 February) after defeating Hong Kong 2-0.

Aira Azman defeated Wai Sze Wing 11-2, 11-9, 11-5 for the first point.

Meanwhile, J Yasshmita scored the second point for the win, beating Toby Tse 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, Free Malaysia Today reported.

The other two members of the team, Whitney Isabelle Wilson and Doyce Lee, competed in the championship for the first time.

Together, the four-player team managed to achieve four consecutive wins for the country, having won the title in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh congratulated the team on their achievement on Twitter.

Over in the men’s event, Malaysia finished joint third after losing to Pakistan 2-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Harith Danial Jefri lost to Noor Zaman 11-13, 6-11, 6-11 while Syamiel Hayzad Shahrulhisam lost to Muhammad Ashab Irfan 4-11, 8-11, 6-11.
