Members of the public managed to foil a kidnapping in front of McDonald’s Taman Kota Masai on 11 May at around 11.30am.

A 7-year-old schoolboy from Sekolah Agama Taman Scientex was walking home from school when he was approached by a man who tried persuading him to get on the motorcycle.

Members of the public saw the man riding off with the child and began following the duo. In the video, the scared schoolboy could be heard crying and calling for help.

A man recording the video could be heard interrogating the kidnapper and insisted they take the child to the police.

The kidnapper was undeterred and tried to walk away with the boy. Fortunately, a few men managed to surround and stop the kidnapper and saved the child.

According to Free Malaysia Today, a member of the public called the police to alert them of the kidnapping.

Investigations revealed that the man in his mid-20s holds an OKU card and is mentally ill. The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.

The case is investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping which carries a term of up to seven years of imprisonment or a fine. The suspect is also investigated under Section 15(1)(a) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The Johor police also reminded parents, guardians and school children to be more careful and pay attention to their surroundings in the future.
