According to Kosmo, the Orang Asli community has a belief that the movements of animals signal the change in weather.

In this case, an Orang Asli villager named Pelinejon Assut, 38, said the elephants moving to the higher ground could be a sign of potential bad weather.

Other than having their habitat disturbed or looking for food, we’re not pushing away the possibility that the elephants are signalling that a natural disaster might happen. This is why the Orang Asli community will take it as a sign to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season in advance.
