Have you ever got super excited preparing for your staycation only to have that same energy fizzle out at the hotel lobby while waiting for your room to be ready?

While it’s tempting to blame hotel employees for being slow, a Tiktok user @anna_faz86 who’s a hotel manager in Pahang unearthed one of the many reasons why sometimes you can’t check in early.

In the Tiktok video, she shared several pictures of messy and dirty rooms left by guests who have checked out of the hotel she works at in Kuantan.

There were bags of rubbish stacked on the floor, empty water bottles strewn over the counter, sweet potatoes cooked in an electric kettle, stained sheets and a cracked TV screen.

Once, the hotel had to pump out the clogged drains in the bathroom only to have chicken bones and rice grains coming out from the floor traps. YUCK.

When check-in is late, you threaten to [make it] viral and want the room to be sanitised 10 times a day. But when you check out and leave a room in this state, don’t you ever feel bad?

She also explained that she doesn’t expect the hotel room to be totally clean like when they check-in but for visitors to at least tidy up after themselves.

It doesn’t hurt to make our housekeeping duties easier. Life needs tolerance. Don’t use the excuse that you have paid. Have some heart. It’s because of species like these that slows down our housekeeping.

Netizens who saw the video were shocked at the state of the rooms.

“Seriously like this? I tidy up and even pick up the hairs [on the floor] when I leave the hotel room,” a netizen wrote.

“Ya Rabbi. Was it a human or a monster that check-in? So embarrassing to see,” another person commented.

“Ehhhhh… my heart hurts to see this. Was it an ape that check-in?” a Tiktok user wrote.

Another netizen also shared their experience when it comes to dealing with hotel guests.

“There are also those who celebrate their birthdays with sprays that end up sticking to the floor and walls. As for the durian, the room can’t be assigned to another guest if the smell is still [in the room]!”

“Only those who have worked in housekeeping will understand the stress when getting a room like this,” someone commented.

What can you do when before you check-out?

In the comments, @anna_faz86 also included a little tip for guests when it’s time to check-out.

She said guests can strip the linens including the bath towels and set them aside in the room. The rubbish bags can be tied neatly and then placed on the floor too.

The other items in the hotel room such as TV remote and electric kettle should be placed as neatly as possible.

Our take is to put the items right back in their place or at least neatly place them all in an area where housekeeping can see them.

If hotel guests can do their part, the check-in process will be easier for the next guest, including you.
