The mother of Chong Sum Yee, a beautician who disappeared after going to Thailand, revealed that someone had extorted RM10,000 from her in exchange for her daughter’s safe return.

Chee Choy Won, Sum Yee’s mother, disclosed this information during a press conference on Saturday (10 June).

Chee also mentioned that her Facebook account was hacked, and her profile picture was changed when the video of Sum Yee reporting her safety was circulated on the internet.

She did not regain access to her Facebook account until today with the help of her son.

Sum Yee has been working and living in Kuala Lumpur for about six years, and her mother and elder brother live in Johor Bahru.

Press Conference Held

During a press conference by Johor DAP, Chee mentioned that Sum Yee had expressed her intention to buy a house and real estate, indicating no financial or economic pressure on her.

Alan Tee Boon Tsong, the Johor Democratic Action Party Political Education Director who assisted Chee in the press conference, stated that Sum Yee’s current state is very unusual.

It is suspected that she might be under supervision or being used.

Appeal To Netizens

Tee appealed to netizens to be cautious in leaving comments regarding this incident.

He advised people not to post malicious comments without knowing the real situation to avoid causing further harm to the family members.

Tee also urged young people not to trust information about foreign high-tech job opportunities and to avoid falling into the hands of criminals.

He hoped that with the cooperation of the Chinese and Thai police, Sum Yee could return safely as soon as possible.

Thai media have also widely reported Sum Yee’s case.
