Hong Kong Actor Ng Man-Tat Finally Laid To Rest In Malaysia
The actor called Malaysia his home after marrying his wife who hails from Segamat.

Hong Kong actor Ng Man-Tat was finally laid to rest in Johor Baru, Malaysia, a year after his death in February 2021.
According to Malay Mail, he asked for his final resting place to be laid in Malaysia so that he’ll be close to his family and it’ll be easy for them to visit him once he’s gone.
Ng called Malaysia his home after marrying his Malaysian wife Hou Shan Yan, who hails from Segamat, in 1996.
Living the HK celebrity life
Ng, also known as Wu Mengda, Richard Ng or Uncle Tat, was a veteran actor signed with TVB.
He was known for his work in the unique ‘Mo lei tau’ Hong Kong slapstick humour. Some of his popular works include Shaolin Soccer, All for the Winner and God of Gamblers.
In addition, he has also made a mark in playing serious roles in films such as Lee Rock and The Wandering Earth.
Despite his versatile acting skills, he has never been cast as the main character during the entire span of his career from 1975 to 2019.
Nevertheless, he has been nominated and won several supporting actor awards such as the Hong Kong Best Supporting Actor throughout his career.
At one point in his life, he was careless with his money as he was rising in the industry in 1980 and ended up incurring HK$300,000 (RM160,719) in credit card debt.
He tried borrowing money from his colleague Chow Yun-Fat since they were long-time friends. However, Chow refused to help his friend and their friendship soured after an exchange of harsh words.
The feud also pushed Ng into a depressive episode. Both Ng and Chow only mended their friendship 10 years later.
Ng also discovered that the big break he got in A Moment of Romance that helped him settle his debts was all due to Chow. Chow secretly gave a recommendation of his friend to the director.
Suffering poor health for years
Ng was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000 which almost caused him to lose a limb and his health deteriorated since then.
In 2014, he was admitted to the hospital for heart failure from a viral infection. It also caused him to lose a lot of weight. From then on, he looked frail and thin, losing his trademark robust figure.
This health scare spurred him to change his lifestyle, but it was a little too late despite his best efforts.
Ng was diagnosed with liver cancer in February 2020 and underwent treatment. Sadly, his condition turned critical when the cancer cells spread due to multiple organ failures.
According to Today Online, Ng suffered a heart attack during a photoshoot for The Legend of Shaolin Temple in January 2021.
He passed away peacefully in Hong Kong’s Union Hospital at the age of 70 on 27 February 2021 from liver cancer. His family and siblings were by his bedside.
He’s survived by his wife and two children who are all based in Malaysia.
