This number means that on average, 1,035 new people were infected with Covid-19 for 483 days every day since the very beginning of the pandemic.
Even though half a million cases, to Malaysia’s total population of 31.95 million, is only around 1.5% of the population affected, the pandemic has impacted every single person in the country personally, from frontline workers to anxious family members.
Percentages don’t tell the full story
Similar to Malaysia, Singapore also has around 1% of their population affected by Covid-19.
However, they have significantly less number of cases than we do. Of their 5.704 million population, they only have 61,730 Covid-19 cases– just around 12% of our total number of cases– even though their population density is more than 80 times denser.
Let’s keep it down
We’ve been through ups and downs this past 1 year and 3 months, through multiple phases of movement control orders, through various stages of celebration and despair, but the fact is that Covid-19 cases are still rising fast and a huge risk to the country.

However, vaccines are already being distributed, first for the more vulnerable and most at risk such as the elderly and our frontliners. While we’re all facing pandemic fatigue, there is a very real possibility that we’re almost at the end of the race.
Stay safe, Malaysians.
