A 4-year-old girl fell from the 11th floor of the police quarters this afternoon and died on the spot.

The tragedy happened at the police quarters in USJ8, Subang Jaya, at about 11:35 am on Friday (28 April).

Harian Metro quoted Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, saying that the victim’s mother was in the kitchen while the child was playing in the living room.

Suddenly there was a loud noise from the door in the middle. She tried to open the door but failed because the door was locked.

At this time, she heard her child calling for help.

She walked into the window of the next room to check it out and suddenly found her daughter had fallen from the building.

Police had ruled out foul play and classified the case as sudden death.

The body was sent to Serdang Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Subang Jaya assemblywoman Michelle Ng Mei Sze extended their condolences to the family.

Preventing Accidental Falls

Various factors, such as lack of adult supervision, inadequate safety measures, or accidental falls, can cause children to fall from high-rise buildings.

Children may sometimes climb onto windowsills or balconies and accidentally fall due to curiosity and lack of awareness of the danger.

Other times, falls can occur due to faulty window or balcony locks or inadequate safety barriers.

Parents and caregivers need to take appropriate safety measures, such as:

  • Installing childproof window and balcony locks.
  • Supervising children around high-rise buildings.
  • Educating children about the dangers of heights.
