The Health Ministry (KKM) announced today that there will be some changes made so that contract doctors will be able to have a better working environment and job security.

According to the statement, these will be the following changes:

  1. There will be 4,186 positions added for contract doctors; namely 3,586 new medical officer positions, 300 dentist positions, and 300 pharmacy positions. The appointment of these positions will begin in June 2022. KKM has also agreed to add another 1,500 officer positions in these departments every year from 2023 to 2025.
  2. KKM will also increase the positions for 800 medical specialists and 70 dental specialists every year starting 2023, to be placed in government clinics in the country.
  3. Additionally, not less than 8,686 new positions for medical officers, dental officers, and pharmacy officers will have an extended contract period of 3 years from 2022 to 2025.
  4. 800 new permanment positions for medical officers and 70 permanent positions for dental officers will be opened up.

These changes come after protests by contract doctors for the past few years regarding strict and uncertain job security. These changes are also part of a roadmap that KKM is discussing with relevant groups and agencies for better employment opportunities for our doctors.
