A man has died and another seriously injured after an incident involving a Ferris wheel at a funfair in Cheras.

The 39-year old man was confirmed dead at the scene after falling off the amusement ride, while the other victim in their 30s was taken to Kajang Hospital for treatment.

The incident, which happened at a funfair said to be near a shopping mall in Cheras, was reported at 12:15 am on Thursday (11 November).

Kajang police deputy chief Supt Mohd Sabri Abdullah said the police were still investigating to determine the cause of the incident and whether there was negligence on the part of the funfair owner or the victims themselves.

Netizen claims Ferris wheel had no proper safety measures

Twitter user @__nhmz posted a screengrab on her Twitter of a person who was allegedly at the funfair around the time the incident happened.

In the image that was shared, the original poster wrote that she did not intend to incite fear but if anyone was thinking of going to the funfair, to avoid riding the Ferris wheel.

“Those pods have no proper safety measures (open, no metal gate, unstable).”

The original poster then wrote she purportedly saw a “bloody dead body” in front of her eyes.

Apparently, two people had fallen from one of the pods leaving one dead and one badly injured.

She then says she doesn’t know what happened or whose fault it was, but it was “really tragic and traumatizing”.

Police say the initial investigations found no criminal element and the case has been classified as sudden death.
