The Datuk who went viral recently and was arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a man and a woman at a restaurant in Tropicana last week, has apologised for his rowdy behaviour.

In a video shared on social media yesterday, Datuk Tan Wai Khan also apologised on behalf of his friend whom he referred to as “Ang Lee”, who was also involved in the attack.

The incident happened in TST Hotspot restaurant on Jan 12, in Tropicana Avenue hours before the Movement Control was in effect.

Besides admitting fault, he also hoped in the over 2 minute video that the public would not involve his family and friends into the issue as Tan said he was the one responsible for the incident.

He also wished that the matter would no longer be prolonged as he and his friend had surrendered to police and were prepared to face the consequences.

My friend and I were irrational and angry at the time as we felt slighted being chided by a younger person. The situation was further aggravated when my friend thought I had been assaulted by the young man and reacted by slapping the victim. The situation escalated, became worse and I lost control before I slapped a young woman. I regret my actions. My friend and I were drunk at the time.

Both were freed on bail after the incident, days after they were arrested.

Tan caught the attention of netizens when he went on a slapping spree in the eatery, hitting the son of Datuk Kwan Foh Kwai, the Perak Chinese Assembly Hall Deputy President and a waitress.

It’s reported that Tan already has criminal records prior to this arrest for criminal intimidation.
