The Rural Development Ministry together with the Community Development Department aims to set up elite nurseries (Taska) and preschools (Tabika) for Malaysian children from middle-income (B40) families.
According to Rural Development Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, entry fees for these schools would be higher than normal Taskas and Tabikas and would also provide a better curriculum for its students.
Taskas and Tabikas are essentially subsidized government-run early childhood education centres for children from low-income families, open to all Malaysian citizens, with fees as low as RM10 per month.

Tabika – for children 4 to 6-years-old
The minister explained that the elite school project was made to provide more options for higher-income families to send their kids to school, besides improving current school facilities, learning modules and facilitating educators with higher qualification levels.
Plans for the elite schools are still under discussion and would be brought to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Dewan Rakyat for approval.
If passed, elite schools would apparently be opened in specific locations targeting the M40 income group.
