The ash and dust spewed by Mount Sinabung in Indonesia is expected to enter Malaysian airspace after erupting yesterday.
According to reports, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said that the ash from the volcano will affect these states:
- Perak
- Kedah
- Perlis
- Pulau Pinang
- Kelantan
- Terengganu
- Pahang
MetMalaysia doesn’t expect that the volcanic ash and dust will affect air quality but it can affect flight operations of altitudes between 1,500 and 5,000 metres.
The organisation’s Director-General Jailan Simon said that the air quality reading is normal according to the Air Pollutant Index (API) and there are no earthquakes or tsunamis expected to hit the country following the eruption.
