The government is providing Malaysians under the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) welfare program assistance for funeral expenses.

According to the Finance Ministry, besides being automatically covered under the national health insurance scheme, MySalam, BHS recipients are also eligible to get up to RM1,000 cash aid from the government to reduce financial burdens to perform their loved one’s funeral rites.

The ministry explained that claims for funeral assistance can be made through any Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) offices nationwide.

The MySalam insurance plan was introduced in 2019 and offers Malaysians under the B40 and M40 group insurance coverage that includes a payout of RM8,000 to be used for medical and hospitalisation bills, covering 45 critical diseases.

Reportedly, some 3.8 million Malaysians are covered under the MySalam program and the government had previously announced that the program would be expanded to include over eight million Malaysians who are not registered as BSH recipients.
