Penang Installs CCTV Cameras To Ensure People Follow Covid-19 SOP

To make sure that premises practice standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), Penang will be using close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor these areas.
State Housing, Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said authorities from Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) would alert anyone who do not adhere to the SOP using speakers.
MBPP and MBSP currently have a total of 1,177 CCTV cameras installed all over Penang and they are expected to have 1,265 cameras by end of the year.
A total of 450 CCTV cameras from the island and 25 on the mainland were upgraded with the video analytics software.
We are expecting to upgrade 78 more cameras on the island with the video analytics software

These cameras are fitted with functions such as facial recognition and vehicle registration number recognition system.
He also warned that the police would take further action if people continue to defy the SOPs.
To fight Covid-19 in Penang, he also said that the state government has set up 7 working committees.
