Malaysia will open its borders to six countries deemed as Covid-19 green zones.

On Friday, 19th June, Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah stated that Malaysia has begun discussions with six countries with low Covid-19 active cases, which are:

  1. Singapore
  2. Brunei
  3. Australia
  4. New Zealand
  5. Japan
  6. South Korea

However, Dr Noor Hisham said that this agreement between Malaysia and the aforementioned countries are still in the early stages and that any standard operating procedures (SOP) must be mutually agreed and reciprocal.

We need to finalise and discuss the details for the agreement between the countries. For example, we need to agree on SOP- in terms of case numbers, quarantine and what needs to be done.

Earlier yesterday, Senior Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Malaysia is now granting entry to Singapore and Brunei citizens without having to acquire approval from the Immigration Department.

Nationals from both of these countries won’t need to undergo the mandatory Covid-19 screening and 14-day quarantine upon arrival either.
