As the country shifts into the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period, and with more and more traffic crowding our streets, the authorities are reminding Malaysians to keep their licenses and road tax up to date.

According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), 2.18 million driver’s licenses and 2.11 million road tax have yet to be renewed by the public since March when the nation first went into Covid-19 lockdowns.

Previously, the government had allowed an exemption for license and road tax renewals, for both personal and commercial uses, as government services were shut down following the Movement Control Order (MCO).

However, the Transport Ministry had mentioned that Malaysians would need to renew their on-the-road documentations within 30 days of the MCO being declared over.

With the public now free to roam about during the RMCO, JPJ is advising Malaysian road users to renew their expired driving licences, road tax and insurance as fast as possible.

JPJ will be opening all of its 855 service counters across the country in order to facilitate renewal processes as well as encouraging the public to utilize online services like MySIKAP and MyEG to get their renewals done to limit public interaction and exposure during the Covid-19 pandemic.
