23 April Fixed For Ramadan Crescent Moon Sighting

The date for sighting the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan has been set on Thursday, 23 April 2020, which will be equivalent to day 29 Syaaban 1441 Hijrah on the Islamic calendar.

The Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal said in a statement today (17 April) that the moon sighting will be conducted at 15 specific locations nationwide during the movement control order period.

According to the statement, the Council of Rulers have agreed to use the Rukyah and Hisab method of determining the beginning of the fasting month.

Those 15 determined locations are:

  1. Pontian Kecil, Johor
  2. Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi, Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka
  3. Telong Kemang, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
  4. Balai Cerap, Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Selangor
  5. Pantai Pasir Panjang, Mukim Pengkalan Baru, Manjong, Perak
  6. Pusat Falak Sheikh Tahir, Pantai Aceh, Penang
  7. Menara Alor Setar, Kedah
  8. Balai Cerap KUSZA, Mukim Merang, Setiu, Terengganu
  9. Menara Bangunan SEDC, Kota Baharu, Kelantan
  10. Teluk Bandung, Kuching, Sarawak
  11. Balai Cerap Al-Biruni, Tanjung Dumpil, Putatan, Sabah
  12. Bukit Pelindong, Kuantan, Pahang
  13. Tingkat 13, Menara Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kampus Antarabangsa, Labuan
  14. Menara Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur
  15. Kuala Sungai Baru, Simpang Empat, Perlis
