The Penang government has drawn up three missions in preparation for the state to face the “new normal” way of living post this Covid-19 pandemic.

The three missions outlined are: 1) strengthening Penang’s ecosystem, 2) streamlining the ecosystem to changes in the 21st century, and 3) building resilience to face any crisis in the future.

On 15 April, via a media conference streamed live on his personal Facebook account, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow shared that these missions were made via the state’s Penang Next Normal Strategy.

Thus, in the fight against the virus, the Penang state government has also made their own preparations for life after the pandemic through the Penang Next Normal Strategy.

Penang cannot be in a crisis forever.

He explained that experts from various fields have predicted that even after the outbreak ends, the world will be seeing major changes to what we once considered as normal as we adapt to life post-Covid-19.

Chow said that the way we move, interact and conduct business will change. Thus, in the fight against the virus, the Penang state government has also made their own preparations for life after the pandemic.

Besides seeing renewals in terms of institution, economics, and social, the strategy has even been implemented in the government’s operations. Examples include encouraging e-commerce in the state via buying online campaigns and Ramadan e-bazaars.

In addition, these renewals can also be seen in the Penang Youth Corporation’s efforts in organising competitions such as e-sports Stay at Home league on 18 April and the virtual round table conference on “PLC19 eCrowdSource: Hacking the Next Normal” on 20 April.

I am confident with all our efforts, Penang will be able to come out of the crisis and continue to develop and achieve excellence.
