A few days ago we found out that the government is gazetting several prominent five-star hotels throughout the country as quarantine centers for Covid-19 patients.

Among the hotels gazetted include Palace of the Golden Horses in Seri Kembangan, Tanjung Rhu Resort in Langkawi, Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Impiana KLCC, and Dorsett Grand Subang in Subang Jaya.

Many of us were wondering who would be footing the expensive hotel bill for the rooms.

Today, Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri explained that the government will cover a maximum of RM150 per day, for the hotel accommodation and food service expenses.

The hotels are said to be used as quarantine facilities for Malaysians returning from overseas who need to be isolated for at least 14-days to help contain the spread of Covid-19.

The move will also help the local hotel industry that has been hit hard by the pandemic.

President of the Malaysia Association Tour Agency (MATA), Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun has applauded the move by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and the National Security Council who declared the hotel industry as a critical sector that can continue to operate during the movement control order (MCO).
