Proposed Kg Baru skyscraper draws criticism from M’sians
As the government is in negotiation over purchasing Kampung Baru, proposed future developments have been shared to the public, including a new tower.
According to Bernama, the proposed tower will be called Menara Mercu Tanda (Signature Tower) Kampung Baru, standing at 430 meters tall with 93 stories.

The design of the tower took inspiration from the traditional Malay sampin and tengkolok to reflect how Kampung Baru has been a historical reminder of the Malay culture.
However, Malaysians were quick to call-out whether the new tower would even be necessary at all.
Agreed, why waste so much money just to build an Iconic building.

Please don’t be stupid, Kg Baru itself is already a landmark.
Others appealed for a better use of the money and space, requesting parks or proper maintenance instead.

(At Minister of Youth and Sports Syed Saddiq) Please, you are the voice of the youth. Please object to this waste. Stop building skyscrapers, please beautify Kampung Baru. Not just building towers left and right… That money can be used for something more beneficial. There’s no benefit to this. What for?
Wtf. Turn kampung baru into a park and/or tourism spot. Preserve and upgrade current buildings in the area. Turn it into a heritage tourism spot. Clean and restore the area.
Leave the occupants there, they’re the ones who makes Kg Baru what it is.

Or spend a little bit more to rework current & old buildings with titanium oxide paints which can reduce the amount of harmful particles present in the air e.g by reacting with nitrogen oxides when come into contact. This has been used and proven effective in London.

The final say on the land deal in Kampung Baru will be decided by the Prime Minister, after residents rejected the government offer of RM850 per sq ft.
