Singapore is recalling bottled water they got from Malaysia after finding traces of bacteria in them!

Bottled water is usually a highly regulated product that must meet certain health standards before it is allowed to be distributed, sold and consumed. Because of this, bottled water is widely considered (and expected) to be a safe beverage for consumption.

So… malu la Malaysia when the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) recently issued a recall on one particular brand of mineral water imported from Malaysia after it was found to contain bacteria.

During a routine sampling of the product, the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected in Malaysia’s “Starfresh” drinking water, which comes in 500ml and 1.5 litre bottles.

Since the discovery, SFA has ordered that the water importer, Radha Exports, recall all affected products.

“Use or consumption of products contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause a range of infections but rarely causes serious illness in healthy individuals.”

Despite that, consumers are advised not to drink the water, especially if they have any health complications. If you’ve recently purchased it, or are currently drinking the water while you read this article…you might wanna go seek some medical advice pronto!

A quick read-up by our most scienc-ey writer revealed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa is commonly found in soil and water.

Generally, the bacterium cannot infect you if you’re perfectly healthy, but if it detects that your defences are compromised in any way then it can cause a variety of infections such as that of the urinary tract, respiratory system, skin, gastrointestinal system and of the bones and joints too!

It’s basically the f***boi of bacteriums – finds out where you’re weak and takes advantage of you there.

If you’ve recently purchased this water, don’t drink it. Maybe use it to water your plants instead?
