Mixed Double Shuttlers Tang Jie-Ee Wei Crowned Champions At The 2023 Taipei Open

Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei ended Malaysia’s 19-year drought in mixed doubles with the win today.

National mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei won their second World Tour title after emerging as champions at the 2023 Taipei Open on Sunday, 25 June.

The world No. 19 Tang Jie-Ee Wei defeated Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang-chieh-Lin Xiao-min 21-12, 21-8 in the final match at the Tian-mu Arena, University of Taipei.

According to Malay Mail, their victory only took 30 minutes.

The pair’s win today ended Malaysia’s 19-year drought in mixed doubles. The last time Malaysia won it for the country was in 2004 by Koo Kien Keat-Wong Pei Tty.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei went home with US$16,590 (MYR77,562) while the runners-up, Hsiang Chieh-Xiao Min received US$7,980 (MYR37,308).

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who formed a partnership late last year, previously bagged the Iran International Challenge 2023 title in February 2023 after defeating compatriots Hoo Pang Rong-Teoh Mei Xing 21-19, 21-15.

Last April, the duo secured their maiden World Tour title at the Orleans Masters 2023 in France after defeating Taiwanese pair, Ye Hong Wei-Lee Chia Hsin, 21-19, 21-17.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei were recently included in the Road to Gold (RTG) programme.

Another Malaysian pair and fifth seeds, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, are up next to defend their title against second seeds, Taiwan’s Lu Ching Yao-Yang Po Han, in the men’s doubles final later today.
