As pet owners, we strive to provide the best possible care for our furry companions, and a key aspect of responsible pet ownership is prioritising preventive measures to ensure their long-term health and well-being.

Royal Canin, a renowned leader in pet nutrition, believes in the power of prevention over cure.

At a media roundtable today at Midvalley Exhibition Center, Royal Canin Malaysia’s Market Head Teh Meng Li,  emphasised the importance of nutrition, tailored diets, and targeted preventive care when it comes to our furry friends.

We currently have over 750 products under Royal Canin that cater to each and every pets’ needs. These products cater to your pets according to their life stages, their health, their breeds and many more.

Teh added that since 1968, Royal Canin has studied the unique health needs of cats and dogs in the minutest of detail.

Over that time, we have learnt that the smallest nutritional difference can make a huge difference to your pet’s life and health. Each individual recipe is formulated to deliver the exact level of natural antioxidants, vitamins, fibre, prebiotics, and minerals that are essential to your pet’s unique health needs.

Also present at the roundtable was Royal Canin’s Scientific Communication Manager Dr Dylan Choy who stressed about not just the importance of a healthy diet but also for pet mummies and daddies to take their fur babies for regular health check ups at the vet.

At Royal Canin we tend to focus on kittens and puppies as well as expecting mother cats and dogs to ensure that a nutritious diet plan is built from birth. Science and tons of research have found that when you start them young, you prevent any chances for your babies to catch diseases in the long run. It also extends their lifespan.

Choy also added that Royal Canin has always been big on preventive care rather than cure and have promoted this idea through their specially tailored products.

She also stressed on taking your pets to the vet as regularly as you can.

Choy noted that several surveys conducted by Royal Canin in the past have found that more than 15% of Malaysian pet owners have never taken their pets to the vet.

This in comparison to global data is saddening.

Globally, about 40% of cat owners and 60% of dog owners bring their pets to the vet for regular check ups and not only when the pet needs a vaccination shot or is sick. In Malaysia more than 40% of owners only bring their pets to the vet when necessary. I would like to reiterate that your pets need regular check ups.

The duo also pointed out that feeding the right amount of food as well as the best type of kibble for your pets are important as well if you want to maintain a healthy and happy furkid.

We sometimes tend to overfeed our animals and that as much as it has become normalised in Malaysia, is not good. Overfeeding can lead to complications such as obesity. This in return can lead to a range of health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, joint issues, decreased mobility, and a reduced lifespan.

Choy pointed out that the best way to make sure you’re feeding your animals properly and enough, is to refer to their kibble packages.

I use a weighing scale. You can never go wrong with that.

Speaking on advocating for balanced nutritious diets, Teh chimed in that while Royal Canin may be slightly pricier than most pet food out there, pet owners can rest assured that their pets are getting the best.

We have gone through much research and studies to ensure that our food fits the needs of all pets. We also understand that unlike humans, pets have notoriously sensitive stomachs. Hence, our products are crafted with highly digestible proteins as well as specific proteins to help their insides stay as strong as their outsides.

Teh and Choy also shared about Royal Canin’s “Take Your Pet To The Vet” initiative, where separate booths for cats and dogs have been set up for pet owners which provides an opportunity for them to engage in one-on-one discussions with qualified pets’ professionals where they could gain valuable insights and advice to ensure the well-being of their beloved companions.

In conclusion, through their emphasis on nutrition, tailored diets, and collaboration with veterinary professionals, Royal Canin hopes to provide a holistic approach to pet health.

And by adopting preventive measures, pet owners can proactively safeguard their pets’ well-being and give them the best chance at a long, healthy, and vibrant life!
