Japanese restaurant chain Sushi Tei Malaysia announced they would cease operations effective 19 June 2023.
The sudden closure announcement was made on its social media accounts without much explanation provided.
The company only said the social media page will no longer carry Sushi Tei content or have any links to Sushi Tei.
However, Sushi Tei Penang said the franchise will still operate in the northern region in places such as Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall and Ipoh Parade.
Meanwhile, Sushi Tei Sabah also seems to be ceasing operations, but teased customers to “watch this space and stay tuned” and said it’s a temporary goodbye.
Sushi Tei had outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Selangor, Perak, and Sabah.
While details are vague, it’s likely the restaurant chain is going through a revamp to bring improved experiences for their customers.
Based on the comments, it was high time the restaurant made some changes as some netizens said the food wasn’t great and the service was poor.
However, the experiences weren’t the same across the board because there are people who expressed their shock over the sudden closures.
Not nice, poor service and overpriced after Covid-19. Fatal combination. Sushi Zanmai has stepped up in recent years.
