Muda’s dinner function at Dewan Yong Shen in Muar, Johor, was ambushed by a rowdy group yesterday (22 October).

Muda secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi said the incident happened around 9.30pm when the dinner was in progress.

A group of about 30 people started provoking the participants by throwing lit firecrackers and plastic bottles at them.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the group started throwing items when Muda members asked the group where they were from.

The police personnel present managed to bring the situation under control and the rowdy group left after 15 minutes.

Syed Saddiq thanked the police for their help and said a police report will be lodged about the incident.

Some suffered injuries and car damage

Unfortunately, a few people suffered injuries during the altercation such as Sabah Muda chief Amos Thien who hurt his legs when he was hit by firecrackers.

Meanwhile, the car belonging to Muda central executive committee member Lim Wei Jiet was damaged. Lim also posted a few photos showing the large dent marks on the side of his car.

In a Twitter update, Lim said he has lodged a police report regarding the damage to his car as well.

Why are they provoking us when we were merely having a dinner function? When Muda members asked them where they were from, they started hurling bottles and firecrackers and damaged a car. I wish to thank the police personnel for their help in bringing order. I strongly reject the politics of provocation and gangsterism.

Syed Saddiq added that those who are unhappy with Muda should meet them in the political arena instead.

After the group left, the dinner went on undisturbed. Also attending the function were former Cabinet ministers Hannah Yeoh and Yeo Bee Yin of DAP.

This was not the first time Muda was harassed by a rowdy group. On 17 October, a group of Mat Rempits heckled the participants by shouting and revving their machines when Syed Saddiq was giving a speech.
