Famous actor Zul Ariffin who landed in a hot soup for uploading a raunchy teaser trailer of the local drama Perempuan Itu containing lewd actions has been slapped with RM30,000 fine by the Sepang Session Court this morning.

Sessions Court Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar dished out the fine after the 36-year-old actor pleaded guilty to the charge.

The charge was framed under Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for the offence of making and initiating the transmissions of communications for improper use of network facilities or network service, which are discordant video clips.

The Act carries a penalty of a fine of no more than RM50,000, up to a year in jail or both.

According to New Straits Times, the actor, clad in a grey-blue suit, arrived at the courthouse at around 7.30am, ahead of his proceeding which was scheduled to start at 9am.

He appeared calm while standing in the dock during the proceeding.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutors Fazril Sani Mohamed Fadzil and Mai Zairani Zainal Abidin while the accused was represented by Saresh Mahendaren and Sivaram Prasad.

During mitigation, Saresh pleaded to the court for a lenient sentence to be imposed as it was Zul’s first time offence and he pleaded guilty as soon as the charge was read to him.

“The video was almost immediately removed after it was posted on March 18. He removed it on March 19. And he didn’t justify or deny his action,” said the lawyer.

The prosecution however asked the court to impose a fine which would represent a fair punishment in order to serve as a lesson to others.

Judge Noorhisham then ordered Zul Ariffin to pay the RM30,000 fine or be jailed for nine months if he failed to pay.

According to the report, the actor paid the fine immediately after the court proceedings ended.

The actor had uploaded the promotional teaser of the drama in March, which showed his character removing his shirt and lifting fellow actress Siti Hariesa while she entwines her legs around him. In another scene, Siti Hariesa’s character was scene clad in a French maid outfit and fed Zul Ariffin’s character whipped cream using her finger.

Netizens were left shocked when they realised that the drama, containing steamy scenes was to be released during the month of Ramadan, which begins on 2 April.
