Scammers brazenly used a phone number belonging to a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, to dupe the public.

The minister found this the hard way when his acquaintances contacted him to confirm a message they received through the Telegram application today (29 July).

According to NST, the minister advised those who received a message from his number, bearing his picture, to ignore it.

He also advised those who received the message to block and report the matter to the application developer.

Unfortunately, one of his contacts in the Santubong parliamentary constituency had been tricked and had transferred RM5,000 to the scammer’s account.

Those who have been duped are urged to lodge a report with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) immediately.

Scammers have been getting bolder by the day. Previously, scammers tried tricking the Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

The police chief received a scam call claiming to be from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
