Johor Regent, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim advised Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to keep his head down and focus on serving the state and its people following allegations of purchasing expensive shoes worth tens of thousands of Ringgit.

Taking it to Twitter, Tunku Ismail sarcastically suggests that Onn Hafiz should wear slippers instead of shoes after this.

The Johor Regent, fondly known as TMJ, said that it is perplexing that people would make a fuss on this issue, adding that he himself was thinking of giving the Menteri Besar and other state officials a watch as a gift.

“Datuk (Onn Hafiz), I advise you to do your job for the state of Johor. Don’t pay too much attention to what the people wanted to say. What is pertinent is to carry out the work,” TMJ tweeted.

Onn Hafiz yesterday denied that he bought a pair of shoes, made by a popular Paris-based menswear manufacturer, which is worth tens of thousands of Ringgit.

The allegation was made by an individual on social media which was highlighted by several Chinese-language newspapers.

“Such accusations and attacks should be stopped. For the record, this is a gift from the Sultan of Johor.

“This is not a new thing, His Majesty had also gifted past state executive council members and state government officials to motivate them to work hard for the people,” Onn Hafiz said in his Facebook posting.
