Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid today defends her remarks that “women are not born to be a leader”, stating that there are still roles that females can play as part of the leadership structure.

According to the UMNO’s president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s eldest daughter, there’s no issue for a woman to become a Member of Parliament, an assemblyperson or even a company’s managing owner.

“What I meant was the top positions such as the prime minister, menteri besar, chief minister and other positions on par with it,” Nurulhidayah wrote on her Instagram’s post.

She was reacting to the criticism she received online for her remarks made during her interview for the Politically Frank episode with Sinar Daily, the English language sister portal to Sinar Harian.

During the interview, she was asked to comment on women’s rights and representation in politics.

Replying to the question, Nurulhidayah said: “I think women are not born to be a leader. Men are born to be a leader. I think for rights, everyone has rights as we are all human.”

Interestingly, she was also asked about how she handles attacks on social media platforms during the interview.

“On the positive part, I just… you know, they are my friends. On negative parts – block, delete and ignore these attention seekers,” she replied.

The snippet of the interview, which was uploaded to TikTok by Sinar Daily, has garnered over 55,000 views.

Several users however question the message that Nurulhidayah is trying to convey.
