The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of a school in Klang Valley spent RM8,000 on 50 stand fans (pic left) to be placed in 20 classrooms when students complained about their hot and stuffy classrooms.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the group of parents were fed up with the inaction of the district education office for not putting in efforts to resolve the problem despite being told several times.

The students have been complaining to parents of their discomfort and how stuffy and hot their classrooms were. We went personally to check on this and found the claims were true.

A spokesman from the school told Free Malaysia Today.

The ceiling fans in the classrooms were inadequate and checks made by the PTA found that to be true. The stand fans in the classroom made a lot of difference.

However, it turned out that the school is experiencing many other unresolved issues that are affecting both students and teachers.

Teachers, being government servants, are afraid to speak up in case they face repercussions from the district education officers and they aren’t allowed to speak to the media.

Some of the unresolved problems in school are:

  • Lack of parking space, forcing teachers to park outside the school.
  • Classes are too big; there are about 40 to 50 pupils in a class.
  • The school was built in 2002 and has not been extended or upgraded since then to meet the demands of the school.
  • More pupils were allowed to enrol in the school although the school could not cope.

A spokesman alleged that the education officials did not visit the school to find out the problems on the ground.

Hopefully, the issues in the school will be resolved soon for the comfort and well-being of both teachers and students.
