In rallying support for ketum plants to be allowed for export, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said that the usage of the internet is more harmful than the plant which can be used as medicinal ingredients.

He said that Kedah government’s bid to export the ketum plants to overseas countries should be considered by the government.

“Is it because the internet caters to the business of multi-billionaires, the riches and the influential, while the ketum plants are merely the crops planted by village folks who are just nobodies?” Sanusi was quoted by Sinar Harian.

Sanusi said that while the ketum plant remains illegal, the internet coverage continues to be widened although much has been deliberated on its negative impact on society.

He said that despite the negativity, efforts to widen the coverage continue as its benefits outweigh the damaging effects.

“Why wasn’t the internet be limited or barred same as how the war on ketum is being carried out? Why ketum didn’t get the same treatment?” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and several other senior Cabinet members are expected to be handed a memorandum on the use of cannabis and ketum for medicinal purposes next week.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said that the move is necessary in order to allow for the plants to be exported.
